Country Residence

Completed, 1997

This country residence consists of a living area with an adjoining open kitchen, a master bedroom, and two guest bedrooms all connected by screened-in porches. It also has a small guest house.

The clients wanted a house built of simple materials that would relate to the site, so the main house parallels the land’s contours and is sited on a bluff overlooking a man-made pond. Both houses have large screened-in areas that provide places to dine, visit, or sleep. The houses are simple geometric shapes and use sturdy, basic materials. The roof material is heavy gauge corrugated metal, the exterior walls are plaster on concrete block, and the floors are stained concrete. The screened-in porches provide the best views and breezes while the interior spaces focus inward.
