Crockett Hotel
San Antonio, Texas

Renovation, 1983

Ford, Powell & Carson completely renovated this historic 140 room hotel. The hotel was redesigned around a new atrium enclosure which reoriented the entrance and main hotel lobby to the rear of the site facing onto a motor court. The lobby features a cafe, trees, and slate paving. The portico facing the Lady Bird Fountain (also designed by the firm) was reconstructed from archival photographs and now serves as the outside entrance to the restaurant. The primary entrance was reoriented to pass through the atrium, creating a grand entrance at minimal cost. All renovation and addition work complied with the Secretary of the Interior's guidelines for historic preservation.
