Northeast Campus Master Plan
Universal City, Texas and Live Oak, Texas

Completed 2006

Ford, Powell and Carson, in conjunction with Overland Partners, Inc. as associated architects, was retained by the Alamo Community College District to complete a master plan for a new community college campus on a 230-acre site to the northeast of San Antonio. The master plan provides for the establishment of the campus and growth to a total of 15,000 students.

The center of the campus is the campus plaza, which will be bordered by several campus buildings including the library, a performing arts center, fine arts facilities, and a building which will house student services and the campus commons. A monumental stair leads down from the central plaza to a walk along the edge of the campus green, which is a large grassed area used for gatherings and recreation. Trellises and seating areas overlook the campus green and provide views west to an open field dotted with huisache and then to a lake at the bottom of the hill.

A landscaped academic "street," bordered by academic and career technology facilities, runs northwest from the walkway bordering the green. A science building and a recreation/wellness center are located on a separate wing southwest of the walkway bordering the green.

Ford, Powell and Carson, again with Overland Partners, Inc. as associated architects, were subsequently selected to design the buildings and sitework for the first phase of development called for in the master plan.

Renderings for this project were completed by Jim Arp, and the campus plan drawing was completed with assistance from the Office of James Burnett Landscape Architecture.
