Paseo del Alamo
San Antonio, Texas

Completed 1985

The Paseo Del Alamo links San Antonio's two most visited tourist attractions -- the Alamo and the San Antonio River. An Urban Development Action Grant was used by the city of San Antonio to clear a site for an urban corridor connecting the river and the historic mission.

The headwaters of the water garden cascade in a variety of fountains and water features alongside and over lushly planted walkways from a high point just outside of the Alamo's outer walls. The pathway continues beneath a major downtown street into the lowest atrium level of the hotel before joining the San Antonio River. The complex project involved the construction of a new vehicular bridge, archaeological investigations which revealed the caliche-block foundations of the outer walls of the Alamo, demolition of a number of buildings, and hydraulic design and modeling.
