This summer house on the Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country incorporates an existing 1930s stone cottage as the core of the expanded vacation residence. To maintain the integrity of the neighborhood context of modestly scaled stone houses, the original cottage continues to define the relationship of the expanded residence to the street. Original walls were left intact, and first-floor spaces were reused as the entry/dining room, kitchen and card room. The attic was modified to accommodate children's bedrooms. An existing screened-in sleeping porch was converted into a gallery that connects the cottage to the new addition. The east and west wings of the new addition house a large master bedroom and three guest rooms, and a spacious glassed-in living room to the south takes advantage of panoramic views towards the Guadalupe River.
