Bernhard Theater
Skidmore College
Saratoga Springs, New York

Completed 1985

The 34,000 square foot Bernhard Theatre complex contains a deep thrust main theatre, an experimental theatre, faculty offices, classroom and rehearsal spaces, and scenery construction spaces. The main theatre seats 350 patrons around a thrust stage. Behind the thrust stage is a shallow, fully rigged and counterweighted proscenium stage. Above the thrust is a grid for dead hanging drops and other scenery. Seating is steeply raked to compensate for the low height of the thrust stage above the surrounding floor.

The experimental theatre is a well appointed directorial space with movable seating capable of handling up to 175 patrons in a variety of seating arrangements. Two levels of catwalks above this theatre provide excellent hanging points for lighting and scenery.
