Tri-Party Street Improvements
San Antonio, Texas

Master Planning and Landscape Design, 1985

Ford, Powell & Carson was retained by the City of San Antonio, Via Metropolitan Transit, and the Downtown Owners' Association to redevelop a 70 square block area of vehicular and pedestrian arteries in the Central Business District. A feasibility study preceded the design projects and resulted in a $22 million Urban Mass Transit Authority design and construction grant for the implementation of the study.

Work included the development of standards for the design of street amenities such as bus benches and shelters, street lighting, paving materials, telephone kiosks, street signage, and newspaper vending machines. Ford, Powell & Carson led the effort to develop uniform standards for lighting and important items of street furniture, thus ensuring design continuity throughout the multi-street project.
