The University of Texas Medical Branch
Galveston, Texas

Master Plan, 1973
Campus Development Plan, 2001

The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB) engaged Ford, Powell & Carson and an associated architect to reorganize their clinical facilities, to connect the clinical zone to the academic portions of campus, and to increase UTMB's visibility on Galveston Island. Ford, Powell & Carson's master plan calls for moving the clinics to new buildings on the eastern portion of campus. There, they will be easily accessible from a loop road which will contain parking and a central plaza area. This plaza will be the focal point of the clinical complex and will act as a landmark for people driving to the campus. The plaza will also serve as the nexus for a network of pedestrian walkways, which will be the center for activities including shopping and food service.
