Cowboy Artists of America Museum
Kerrville, Texas

Completed 1983

Located on a ten-acre site in the Texas Hill Country, this 14,400 square foot museum houses the work of western artists in permanent and rotating exhibits. The architecture reflects the character of both the western art it contains and the era which inspired it. Local and regional materials are used throughout: dry-stacked limestone, end grain mesquite flooring, oak woodwork and cabinetry, and hand-carved wooden doors. Unique flat-arched ceilings and roofs constructed of brick by Mexican bovaderos recall the influence of northern Mexico in this region. Light cannons in the centerline of each dome allow diffuse natural light into the gallery spaces.
