Hill Country Residence

Interior Design, 1992

Ford, Powell & Carson provided interior design recommendations for the interior redesign of this Hill Country home. The existing house was somewhat forbidding in appearance and coldly modern. The clients wanted the renovated house to reflect their Hispanic heritage with a distinct Southwestern flavor.

The renovation added warmth and scale to otherwise cool spaces and transformed the courtyard into an outdoor place reminiscent of Territorial or Spanish Hacienda courtyards, with private spaces arrayed around its perimeter. Natural materials, including wood, leather, and terra cotta, were used throughout. A new deck, facing the private lake, was added to link existing outdoor decks and to provide an outdoor dance area, and a new fountain was designed to serve as the focal point for the entrance to the house.
