Killam Corporate Headquarters
Laredo, Texas

Architecture and Interior Design

This corporate headquarters for a Laredo-based ranching and oil and gas company is light and airy with views to the surrounding landscape. The site is part of a large land development owned by the company, the centerpiece of which is the campus of a new public university. The new headquarters building takes advantage of the site’s commanding views to the university and the surrounding landscape.

The building was sited directly on axis with the main entry of the university campus and was divided into four quadrants: Executive Offices, Oil and Gas Operations, Real Estate and Accounting. The architectural form of the building is simple and transparent to provide dramatic panoramic views to the outside. The entry corridor is on axis with the campus beyond and is raised to permit the entry of natural light through clerestory glazing.

Rough textured limestone walls, smooth concrete columns, and plaster infill walls are complemented by the use of heavy galvanized metal, industrial aluminum grating, and large glass panels. These elements are softened by using maple panels on the interior.
