Trinity University
San Antonio, Texas

Master Plan, 1949
Academic and Support Buildings, 1949-1989

Ford, Powell & Carson's master plan for Trinity University calls for a campus that resembles, in scale, character, and feeling, a northern Italian hill town. During the four decades since then, the firm has jointly designed more than fifty buildings for the campus.

The campus is located on the site of a former limestone quarry. The campus was laid out to take advantage of the contours; the academic and administrative buildings are located on the high bluff, and residential buildings and playing fields are in the well of the quarry. Buildings are grouped to emphasize student gathering places and pathways and are carefully placed among clumps of native oaks and mountain laurel.
